‘Italian Style’ exhibit heads to Nashville

Published
Aug 4, 2015

The Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville will serve as the venue for the Victoria & Albert Museum’s "Italian Style: Fashion since 1945" exhibit. Nashville will be the third city, after Minneapolis and Portland, to host the exhibit since it opened in June.

The exhibit curated by V&A's Sonnet Stanfull highlights the birth and growth of the post-World War II Italian fashion industry. Beginning with the pivotal Sala Bianca runway shows in the 1950s, the exhibit takes visitors through Italian fashion history featuring 90 garments and accessories from past and present designers. Designers featured include Dolce & Gabbana, Armani, Gucci, Missoni, Prada, Pucci, Valentino, Versace, and next generation talent Giambattista Valli, Fausto Puglisi, and Valentino’s Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli.

This isn't the first time a V&A Museum exhibit has shown at Nashville's Frist Center for Visual Arts. In 2010, "The Golden Age of Couture: Paris and London 1947-57" exhibit was one of the most visited exhibits at the Center with as many as 97,000 visitors. "Italian Style" may replicate those numbers after having been visited by as many as 40,000 in just two months at the previous two cities.

"Italian Style: Fashion since 1945" opened on June 5 and will remain in Nashville until September 7.
