Alexander Wang steps down as CEO of his company

Published
Oct 2, 2017

Alexander Wang embarks on a new chapter on Monday, announcing the appointment of Lisa Gersh as CEO, effective immediately, and the appointment of Stephanie Horton as Chief Strategy Officer, a newly created position at the company.

Alexander Wang steps down as CEO of his namesake company, but he will remain as Chairman and CEO.

Gersh, who joins the New York City-based company from Goop, succeeds Alexander Wang as CEO. Wang has served as Chairman, CEO and Creative Director of his namesake company since it was established in 2005, and though he steps down from his role as CEO, he will continue to serve as Chairman and Creative Director.

“The appointment of CEO, and the addition of a CSO position, highlight our ongoing strategy of productivity and diversification,” said Wang. “In a rapidly changing retail environment, it’s necessary for us to continually challenge the status quo. In my year as CEO I’ve been able to reflect and assess the strengths and opportunities of the Company and set the stage for future growth. Lisa and Stephanie’s diverse backgrounds in the media, lifestyle, and digital landscape will help us continue to position the business to expand into new categories and territories.”

At Goop, Gersh served as CEO and was responsible for advertising revenue and the introduction of Goop-branded products. Prior to Goop, she served as CEO of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, served in executive roles at NBCUniversal and was Co-founder and President of Oxygen Media.

Horton heads to Alexander Wang from Farfetch, where she led the company’s marketing and corporate communications strategy during its expansion into China, Russia and the Middle East. Prior to Farfetch, she held leadership positions at Shopbop, Vogue and The New York Times.

In addition, Alexander Wang appointed Tom Florio and Jonathan Miller to the Board of Directors. The new board members bring several years of experience in fashion, media, entertainment, and technology to the Alexander Wang board.
