Amazon fulfillment center might take over former Cleveland mall site

More proof that the future of shopping malls continues to be threatened by e-commerce: Amazon is most likely opening a fulfillment center in a 855,000-square-foot space (around 69 acres) that was previously home to Randall Park Mall (shuttered since 2009) in North Randall, Ohio.
The Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority board has already approved $123 million worth of bond financing that would become available in the later part of 2018—this funding would be supported by investor money. Atlanta-based developer Seefried Industrial Properties, Inc. has a contract to purchase the property that currently belongs to various owners.
The developer plans on demolishing the current structure in order to rebuild a $177 million fulfillment center (adding to a growing list of 70-plus centers nationwide) that would be leased to Amazon. While the project is not 100 percent approved yet by Amazon (the company could reportedly make a final decision in the next 30-45 days), there is tremendous community support surrounding the project as it’s estimated tro bring in approximately 1,200 jobs that would garner tremendous benefit packages and competitive salaries.
