Amazon places limit on customer reviews

Amazon has decided to limit the number of non-Amazon Verified Purchase reviews a customer can submit to only five per week.

Non verified reviews are reviews where Amazon has not confirmed that the product was purchased at the website, or the customer received the product at a deep discount.

The policy will not apply to Vine reviews or comments on digital and physical books, music or video.

The retailer will also restrict the number of non-Amazon Verified Purchase reviews on a product if it finds unusually high numbers of reviews posted in a short period of time.

The move is part of a wider effort to deliver authentic and valuable customer reviews, which are an important tool to help other customers make informed purchase decisions. The stricter criteria will ensure that individuals who are manipulating reviews or posting fake product reviews are banned or suspended.

Amazon also announced in October a change to ‘incentivized reviews’, or reviews posted in exchange for a free or discounted product. Customers can now only submit incentivized  reviews if they have been facilitated through the Amazon Vine program.
