Berghaus creates product sustainability tags

Published
Apr 27, 2016

People shopping at outdoor brand Berghaus will find, from this season onwards, a Made Kind symbol representing the clothes that have been made with more eco-friendly materials or improved processes.

The tag will highlight fabrics and technologies that combine high performance with low environmental impact as an extension of Berghaus’ product sustainability programme.

Environmentally-friendly gear will only earn a Made Kind tag if they have been made out of a bluesign® approved fabric; made using the award winning Colourkind colouring process; or made using recycled materials.

The UK company has placed a particular focus on reducing water use in product manufacture by improving its dyeing technologies. With this in mind, the brand developed ColourKind, wich is a woven fabric that goes through fewer dyeing stages than regular fabrics, resulting in 89% water savings, 63% less chemicals used, and 60% reduced CO2 emissions.

For this year, the use of the process has been extended to a significantly larger range of Berghaus products, featuring in a selection of the summer clothing range.
