British women spend £10 billion annually on cosmetics and hair products

 A new report has revealed that British women splurge on average £95.94 annually on make-up and a further £162.52 on hair products, totalling an annual total spend of £10 billion.

Men spend half that amount on haircare, spending £85.99 on average each year, according to a survey commissioned by Oasis Dental Care.

The data reveals insights into British consumers’ preferences, with the average woman investing more money on her beauty than her health. While cosmetics and hair products sets average British women back more than £258 a year, the average health bill reaches only £161 per year, found the survey.

“While 60% of people told us that they believe it’s more important to feel healthy than look good, they also told us they’d be more likely to spend their last £30 on new clothes than a dental check-up, which suggests we love our looks more than we love our health,” said Eddie Coyle of Oasis Dental Care.

One in five respondents said their primary motivation for hitting the gym is looking good, rather than being healthy, and over half confessed they would put up with a permanent minor pain if it looks good.
