Canadian government awards $600,000 to Quebec fashion industry

The Government of Canada announced on Friday a major financial commitment to Quebec’s fashion industry with funding granted through CED (The Quebec Economic Development Program).

 
A total of $600,000 in financial assistance will be awarded to Mmode, Quebec’s fashion industry’s metropolitan cluster, over the next three years. 
 
The contribution is expected to help industry actors become more competitive and to help them grow through innovation and exports.

"Our motto at the Mmode Cluster is: 'If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.' Thanks to our valuable public and private partnerships, we have been able to implement promising projects that are stimulating growth in Montréal's fashion industry,” explained Mmode Director General, Debbie Zakaib, in a news statement.
 
“This partnership with Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions will help the mmode Cluster continue to develop and launch innovative initiatives over the next three years to make local businesses more competitive and position Montréal as an international fashion mecca."
 
Launched in May 2015, Mmode’s mission is to rally and unite Quebec fashion industry players including designers, manufacturers, wholesalers-distributors and retailers in order to stimulate Quebec fashion industry’s growth and increase its global competitiveness. 
 
“The Government of Canada is standing by its commitments by helping innovative SMEs in the fashion industry that are building on innovation and want to expand and export their products and services, thus ensuring the prosperity of the Canadian economy," added Mélanie Joly, Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie and Member of Parliament for Ahuntsic-Cartierville.
