Canadian talent recognized at the Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards

The Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards (CAFA) honoured a number of Canadian designers and industry professionals at a gala in Toronto on Friday.
 
The gala, held at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, was hosted by Canadian raised actress Kim Cattrall, famously known for her role as Samantha Jones on the TV show Sex and the City. The gala also attracted other notable guests including the Prime Minister’s wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau.

Among the winners, New York-based designer Jason Wu took home the award for international Canadian designer of the year. The award recognizes a Canadian designer who achieved International success and brought attention to Canadian talent on the world stage.
 
Toronto-based label Greta Constantine, designed by Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong, was recognized with the womenswear designer of the year award, while Vancouver-based label Wings + Horns was named menswear designer of the year.

Despite tough competition from the likes of 3.Paradis and Beaufille, the emerging talent in fashion design award was awarded to Jose Manuel St-Jacques and Simon Belanger from the Montreal-based label UNTTLD.
 
In the accessories category, brothers Byron and Dexter Peart received honours for their brand WANT Les Essentiels.
 
Among other industry professionals, Annie Horth received stylist of the year honours; Herieth Paul was named model of the year; Adam Butcher received the fresh face award presented to an emerging Canadian model; Photographer Gabor Jurina was named image maker of the year; and the fashion blog, The Coveteur, received fashion blogger of the year honours.
