Commonwealth opens DTLA flagship
Dec 14, 2017
Virginia Beach-based Commonwealth has opened its first West Coast flagship in Downtown LA. This is the thirteen-year-old brand's third US location, joining one in Virginia Beach and another in Washington D.C.
The new LA flagship is a 1,500-square-foot space in the revitalized Los Angeles Arts District. It showcases the brand's streetwear-inspired assortment that includes Adidas Originals, Anti Social Social Club and T by Alexander Wang.
LA customers will also be able to purchase hand-stitched leather shoes from an exclusive Padmore & Barnes collection. The new West Coast flagship will also offer an exclusively Made-in-LA collection from Commonwealth's own namesake brand.
Commonwealth explains it offers "brands that tap into the independent spirit of counter culture." Its stores are designed to meet "the demand for new and established street, fashion, and sportswear brands that influence and inspire."
The stores have received accolades from men's journals, having been ranked among "the coolest stores in America" and as one of the top 100 stores men should shop at.
In addition to the apparel and footwear assortment, the LA flagship will offer an experiential gallery space. The debut exhibit is a retrospective of 1980s skate zine art presented in partnership with Fact and the Skateboardmuseum Berlin.
The exhibit pays tribute to what Thrasher called in 1981 a "new energetic spirit with radical ideas to further expand previous established barriers." In addition to art, Commonwealth LA will support the exhibit with DIY, Punk and New Wave inspired apparel.
Commonwealth LA is now open 2008 E. 7th Street in Downtown Los Angeles.
