SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH.PA) said on Friday 18 September that a Paris tribunal found eBay (EBAY.O) liable for brand counterfeiting, and ordered the Internet auction and retail company to pay the French luxury brand 80,000 euros (72,359 pounds).

A host of perfume and cosmetic brands under the LVMH umbrella, including Christian Dior, Kenzo, Givenchy and Guerlain, had sued eBay claiming the San Jose, California-based company that connects online buyers with sellers had links on its site leading to counterfeit goods.

"The Tribunal has ruled that eBay, in using in its advertisements the keywords of some of LVMH's brands, has committed acts of counterfeiting through reproduction or imitation," said Pierre Gode, director of LVMH Group, in a statement.

Besides the 80,000 euro payment to LVMH, the Tribunal said it would fine eBay 1,000 euros for each future infringement, LVMH said.

An eBay representative could not be immediately reached for comment.
