Dame Vivienne Westwood to release diaries

Published
Apr 10, 2016

British fashion's grand dame, designer Vivienne Westwood, lives a life that seems to be as colourful as her clothes are.

Now, readers can hear it described in her own words, with the release of her new book "Get a Life", which is a collection of diary entries that spans six years of Climate Revolution (the website that chronicles Westwood's campaign against climate change), fashion and activism.

The book will cover events like when Westwood made a trip up the Amazon to highlight tribal communities’ struggles to maintain the rainforest, and when she drove a tank to David Cameron’s Cotswolds home in an anti-fracking protest. Its release is well-timed - the punk movement, which Westwood helped create, turns 40 this year.

‘My diaries are about the things I care about. Not just fashion but art and writing, human rights, climate change, freedom’, Vivienne Westwood said. ‘I call the diaries Get a Life as that's how I feel: you've got to get involved, speak out and take action.’

Mark Ellingham, publisher at Profile Books and Serpent’s Tail, said: ‘Vivienne Westwood is someone who says exactly what she thinks – all the time. That's what makes her diaries so compelling. You never know what she'll be writing about nor what she'll choose to say about it.’

"Get a Life" is out on October 6, 2016.
