Denim festival debuts in NY

New York Denim Days will bring two days of shopping, lectures, product history and celebration of denim craftsmanship to American denimheads in a festival-like setting paying tribute to all things denim.

NY Denim Days

The two day event is modeled on Amsterdam Denim Days and will take a distinctly NY perspective. Two days of shopping, sales, installations and demonstrations will take place September 30th and October 1st. There will also be a street festival on October 1st.

Denim Days is open to the public. Fashion students and designers looking for pieces of Americana for inspiration will find it particularly relevant. On September 29th, the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) is hosting an invite-only lecture series giving students access to icons in the denim industry.

Speakers at the FIT Denim Talks include denim icon Adriano Goldschmied, Diesel USA CEO Stefano Rosso, and Scott Morrison CEO and founder of 3x1, Paper Denim Cloth and Earnest Sewn. Stefan Siegel of Not Just a Label and Sanjeev Bahl, president of Saitex garment factory and laundry are also on the agenda.

"Denim Days will be our Woodstock," said Adriano Goldschmied.

Exhibitors include Hudson, Brooklyn Denim Co., Jean Shop and 3x1. Jean Shop will be selling current product, displaying vintage denim and also offering special event product including leather bracelets that can be custom dyed and hand stamped, and indigo dyed bandannas.

"With the changing landscape of the retail industry worldwide, Denim Days is a great way for brands and services to present a special experience directly to the consumer," said Eric Goldstein of Jean Shop.

Denim Days shopping experience will take place at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. There will also be a one-day street festival on Oct. 1 on West 18th Street between 6th and 7th Ave that features a vintage market, food, music and art for denim lovers.

Tickets are available to the public for $10 with the exception of the FIT talks which are invite-only for students and denim industry professionals.
