Designer Thom Browne exhibits at New York's Cooper Hewitt Museum

Published
Apr 12, 2016

Until 23rd October, the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in New York (2 East 91st Street) has invited designer Thom Browne to take part in the 'Selects' installation series, an event in which renowned artists, architects and designers are asked to reinterpret the museum's collections.

Among the museum's 210,000 exhibits, the US designer chose to explore "ideas about reflection and individuality" through an installation consisting of about fifty mirrors, the majority of them dating back to the XVIIIth century. All of this inside an area entirely upholstered in holographic wallpaper, with chrome furniture and silver-plated Thom Browne shoes.

The atmosphere should encourage visitors to "wonder about their physical and mental representation, while admiring the scene they see," reads the artwork's description.

According to the US designer, the installation, with its omnipresent mirrors - from the walls to the ceiling, and the shoes - "gives the impression that the viewer is part of the installation, while reflecting his/her own individuality."
