The Italian brand has opened its first monobrand store in Myanmar, setting up shop inside the Yangon international airport.

Spanning 100 square metres, the Diesel debut also showcases the fashion brand's new retail design concept, headed up by interior designer Masamichi Katayama, in collaboration with Japanese architect firm Wonderwall. Its also the first Asian travel retail store to exhibit the new format.

Wonderwall collaborated with Diesel artistic director Nicola Formichetti on the design too, for a store look that is “simple yet unexpected,” said the brand a statement.

Looking forward, Diesel said airport stores are extremely important for the brand and is planning more openings like the Yangon one.

“The travel retail channel is extremely crucial for the brand, in fact Diesel is reinforcing its presence in the global travel-retail market and to confirm this, future openings are planned in Singapore, Waikiki and Guam," said the brand in a statement.

The new opening coincides with the launch of Diesel’s spring/summer 2017 collection.

Diesel is owned by Italy's OTB Group, which also operates Maison Margiela, Marni, Paula Cademartori, Viktor&Rolf, Staff International and Brave Kid.

In 2016, total group revenue reached €1.580 billion, while consolidated profits amounted to €3.8 million, compared to €3.5 million in 2015.
