Edward Enninful styles an all-black cast in the latest Pirelli Calendar

The 2018 edition of the famed Pirelli calendar will feature an all black cast of models, actors, musicians and performers. Styled by the recently appointed editor-in-chief of British Vogue Edward Enninful, the calendar will take on an Alice in Wonderland theme.

 
The 2018 calendar takes its inspiration from the original Alice in Wonderland illustrations by John Tenniel. Edward Enninful styled notable models and musicians such as Naomi Campbell and Sean Combs to appear as characters from the famed children’s story.
 
Photographer Tim Walker shot the calendar, which features South Sudanese-Australian model Duckie Thot in the starring role of Alice. Other personalities to appear include RuPaul as the Queen of Hearts, Whoopi Goldberg as the Royal Duchess and Lupita Nyong’o as a dormouse.

The calendar is notable for featuring an entirely black cast, a rarity in fashion, but not a first for the Pirelli calendar. Its 1987 edition also featured only black models, including a 16-year-old Naomi Campbell. The launch of the 2018 calendar will also coincide with the 10th anniversary of Italian Vogue’s all black issue, which also featured Campbell.
 
Pirelli’s 2017 calendar was shot by Peter Lindbergh and was mostly “makeup-free” while the 2016 issue was shot by Annie Leibovitz and starred accomplished women such as Serena Williams.
