Escape the Runway puts the focus on Canadian designers

A new event is coming to Toronto on Wednesday and will put four Canadian designers in the spotlight.
 
Baptized Escape the Runway, the fashion gala event will host close to 900 invite-only guests including buyers, media and celebrities at Thompson Toronto, where four Canadian designer collections will be displayed in various visual presentations throughout the venue.  
 
Later this year, Escape the Runway will equally make stops in Vancouver and Calgary to further highlight these designers across the country.

 
Featured designers will include Christopher Paunil, Calgarian designer Paul Hardy, CAFA Menswear Designer of the Year Award-Winner Travis Taddeo, as well as sustainable clothing line, Peggy Sue Collection. Their collections will be displayed in a series of static presentations ranging from a Marie Antoinette-inspired tea party, to an entertainment-filled earth theme presentation and a tantalizing strip poker exposition.  
 
The event is dedicated to giving these Canadian designers visibility, primarily with buyers from across Canada.

“Our goal is to start with bringing awareness to Canadian buyers and the importance of buying local and what we have to offer,” said event organizer, Julie West, when speaking with FashionNetwork.com.
 
“That’s one of the reasons why we’re bringing designers across the country. A designer that is really well-known in Montreal or Toronto, may not be as well known in Vancouver or Calgary, and vice-versa, so we’re taking designers from across the country and bringing them together to use each others popularity to bring awareness to what the country has to offer as a whole.”  
 
The featured designers were all selected as they have very different brand offerings and come from various cities across Canada, West explains.
 

The first edition of Escape the Runway will kick off at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, May 10, in Toronto. Show dates for the Escape the Runway event in Vancouver and Calgary have not yet been announced.
