Forever 21 under fire again for allegedly copying a shirt designed to benefit Planned Parenthood

Published

The fast fashion retailer is once again facing accusations that it copied another designer's work, this time regarding a t-shirt designed to benefit Planned Parenthood.

Instagram: Word

The allegations come from Los Angeles PR company Word. On Friday, the agency’s Instagram account posted side-by-side images showing the simiarlities between its Creator t-shirt and a Forever 21 shirt. Both white t-shirts have the word “woman” printed in multiple languages, though the Forever 21 product has the word in just five languages compared to Word’s nine.

The company’s founders Angela Carrasco and Zoila Darton designed the Creator shirt in July to benefit Planned Parenthood, with 25 percent of the proceeds going to the organization. Carrasco says they have contacted Forever 21 without a response and are considering legal action. The company’s Instagram post also asks Forever 21 to donate all the money from its t-shirts to Planned Parenthood.

Forever 21 has faced numerous accusations of ripping off other designers in recent months. Earlier this month, independent designer Betsy Johnson of Freckled Ace claimed the brand’s collaboration with vintage designer Sami Miro copied pieces of her own. In addition to accusations from independent designers, the company has also been embroiled in numerous lawsuits with Adidas and Gucci
