Gap in talks with Intermix

Published
Dec 17, 2012

American multi-brand retailer Intermix is looking for investors to drive development and is in discussions with the Gap group, according to Khajak Keledjian, founder of Intermix.

The store hired banking firm The Sage Group to sit in on the discussions and offer advice. A spokesperson for Gap confirmed that the talks were taking place and assured that Intermix will be keeping its current business plan and will remain loyal to its clients. “The luxury market offers significant growth potential within retail,” he added.

Intermix specialises in women’s wear and has been offering American women a contemporary selection of clothes for the past 19 years. Amongst some of the brands sold in the stores are, Azzedine Alaïa, Carven, Derek Lam, Fendi, J Brand, Neil Barrett, Sergio Rossi and See by Chloé.

Founded by brothers Khajak and Haro Keledjian, the chain owns 33 stores in North America, with one of those being in Toronto, Canada. If discussions lead to Gap taking a stake in Intermix, the move would be the Californian group’s first venture into luxury retailing.
