Hoka One One and Engineered Garments collaborate on footwear collection

Deckers Brands-owned premium running shoe brand Hoka One One announced on Thursday a partnership with Japanese-American menswear label Engineered Garments on a footwear collection, available exclusively at Engineered Garments’ Nepenthes stores and online.

This first collaboration between the two brands features Hoka’s Hupana model – which features a fully knit upper – in a range of six different colorways and textile updates.

The collection seeks to combine Hoka’s premium running shoe technology with Engineered Garments’ style and sportswear heritage. The shades used in the different colorways have been chosen to create striking contrasts and the shoes feature patterns which are asymmetrical between the left and the right foot.

The collection is Hoka’s first collaboration in the fashion and lifestyle space and, in order to spotlight the performance footwear brand and introduce it to a new audience, Engineered Garments’ New York Nepenthes location will host an in-store Hoka pop-up through May 22.

“We are excited to partner with Engineered Garments to reach men and women who incorporate fashion and design into their fitness lifestyle, and vice-versa,” Hoka One One VP of Product Gretchen Weimar said in a release. “The collection reflects the increasingly interconnected worlds of fashion and performance, and will reach trendsetters in both of those realms.”

Engineered Garments Designer Daiki Suzuki commented, “Hoka is now on a bigger playing field with more mass sneaker companies paying attention to their designs and philosophy, and the Hupana is a perfect fit for this collaboration for its light weight and simple design. We are excited to be working with a company with an ethos and mantra built on the sport of running.”

Launched in 2009, Hoka One One has since become the fastest growing premium running shoe brand in the world, popular with runners and other athletes for its lightweight shoes featuring extra-thick midsoles.

New York-based Engineered Garments has made a name for itself in the apparel industry by mixing inspirations from American sportswear and Japanese design, and previously teamed up with Dr Martens for a footwear collection in January 2017.

Shoes in the Hoka One One x Engineered Garments collection retail for $130 and are now available at Nepenthes stores in New York and Tokyo, as well as online through Engineered Garments’ dedicated Japanese and American sites.
