Holiday make-up: golden shimmer and glamorous lips

For their holiday collections, cosmetics makers have drawn upon Fall-Winter trends, adding a touch of glamour and some of the colors traditionally associated with the festive season. A few overriding trends have emerged among these lines: golden shimmer, a natural, luminous complexion and intense lips.

The house of Christian Dior recently unveiled its 2014 holiday makeup line. While last year's collection was inspired by the Château de Versailles and its gold leaf decorations, this latest line explores a similar theme, emphasizing gold and shine through all that glitters. One example is the Diorific Golden Shock Rouge Choc Mat Et Métal lipstick, which has a matte side and a shimmery one. For the eyes, the brand has introduced two new 5 Couleurs eyeshadow palettes (Golden Reflections and Golden Shock), which combine steel grey with bronze and dark plum with pink, all while reserving a place of honor for gold. The result is a glamorous and chic makeup look that is perfect for even the most festive occasions.

Presented in a limited edition, the latest holiday collection from the French brand evokes light and delicate feathers. Silver and gold shimmer and a luminous complexion are in the spotlight, combined of course with dramatic lips. Among the stars of the line are the Camelia de Plumes Highlighting Powder for the cheekbones and neckline, the Oiseaux de Nuit Palette with five contrasting eyeshadows, and the Rouge Allure Velvet lipstick in a stunning red shade dubbed La Flamboyante.

Considering the level of buzz surrounding the Japanese brand's homage to Karl Lagerfeld's cat, an introduction hardly seems necessary. Designed for cat lovers in particular, this holiday line nonetheless has something that will appeal to all makeup fans. The Rouge Bonbon Fantasy Lip Color Trio offers intense color and shine for the mouth thanks to the use of the Lumicolor Matrix Technology. For haute couture eyes, the collection also includes false lashes in two versions: one adorned with feathers and blue fabric, and the other with silver elements accented with blue crystals.
