Hublot presents 'Big Bang Unico Red Magic' in patented red ceramic

Watchmaker Hublot has developed the first vibrantly coloured ceramic, promising superior resilience to classic ceramics. Red has been selected as the first bold iteration of this patented innovation, used to make a limited-edition version of the iconic "Big Bang Unico." 

After developing Magic Gold -- a scratch-resistant 18-carat gold -- the Swiss watch brand continues to innovate with new materials. Its latest creation is billed as the first brightly coloured ceramic, a patented new material exclusively designed and produced in-house. In total, Hublot spent four years developing the idea, mastering the discovery and bringing it to market.

As well as bringing vibrant color to ceramic, Hublot's new material promises boosted resilience since it is harder than classic ceramics.

The "Big Bang Unico Red Magic" is a 500-piece limited edition with a 45mm case and bezel made from polished red ceramic. The flange, indexes, minute and seconds counters, Arabic numerals and hands all match the hue. The design showcases the workings of the watch movement, finished in a contrasting darker colour.

The watch uses the Unico HUB124 manufacture self-winding chronograph movement, is water-resistant up to 100 metres and has a 72-hour power reserve. It has a black-and-red-lined structured rubber strap.
