Home furnishings retailer Ikea Canada announced on Tuesday the appointment of Marsha Smith as President of Ikea Canada.

Smith has been with the Ikea organization for the last 13 years. Most recently, she was Store Manager of Ikea Dublin in Ireland where she led the store to significant growth. She led the country’s Market Penetration Plan process, which triggered the start of expansion in this market for the first time in eight years. The business has since experienced 44 percent cumulative growth over the past three years and continues to grow.

"It is a huge privilege to have the opportunity to lead the Canadian organization and be part of continuing what has been a fantastic growth story," says Smith, in a news statement. "I look forward to my role in the exciting chapter ahead as we look to double the number of Ikea stores in Canada and create a better everyday life for the many Canadians."

Smith says her first business priorities are to get to know her co-workers across the country and to immerse herself into the Canadian retail landscape. Her position is effective February 6, 2017.

Ikea currently has 12 stores, an eCommerce virtual store, six Pick-up and order points and two Collection Points in Canada. The company also recently announced plans to open new stores in Halifax and Quebec City.
