J.W. Anderson eyed up by LVMH?

Published

Could the world’s number one luxury conglomerate be eyeing up J.W Anderson for a potential investment? This is the case according to publication WWD, which cites anonymous sources. Neither the group or the Irish designer’s spokespeople have confirmed the story.

J.W. Anderson launched his menswear line in London in 2008, the success of which led him to create a womenswear collection for those desperate for his androgynous designs. Funded by collaboration with Topshop, J.W. Anderson designs hit the runway at London Fashion Week and the young designer was soon chosen to succeed Christopher Kane at Versus Versace, Versace’s younger line which welcomed his avant-garde aesthetic.

The news comes at a time when many luxury groups are looking to invest in fresh, young talent. Last week, rival group Kering took a minority share in New York-based brand Altuzarra. Talks between LVMH and Nicholas Kirkwood, a contemporary of J.W. Anderson, were rumoured to have started months ago though nothing has been confirmed.

Earlier this year, LVMH took control of Italian label Loro Piana and increased its stake in luxury brand Hermès to 22.3%. The group also owns a share of young French brand Maxime Simoëns. The deal would be the French luxury group’s first move on the British fashion scene since it bought Thomas Pink in 1999.
