For the third quarter ended Oct. 31, net income rose to $11.7 million, or 63 cents a share, from $9.3 million, or 50 cents a share, a year ago.

Total sales rose 8 percent to $161.3 million, spurred by a 21 percent jump in direct marketing sales.

Analysts on average were expecting the company to earn 55 cents a share on revenue of $160.2, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Shares of the Hampstead, Maryland-based company closed at $42.80 Tuesday 1 December on Nasdaq. (Reporting by Viraj Nair in Bangalore; Editing by Deepak Kannan) (([email protected]; within U.S. +1 646 223 8780; outside U.S. +91 80 4135 5800; Reuters Messaging: [email protected]))
