Oct 6, 2017
L'Oreal Group's apothecary style brand Kiehl's Since 1851 is debuting in five select Sephora stores over the next two months. The in store launch of the brand follows an e-commerce launch with Sephora in August.
Kiehl's is now available at Sephora's Powell Street store in San Francisco as well as at its Times Square and Soho stores in New York. It is also now in Las Vegas at The Forum Shops at Cesars Palace. Next month, Sephora's 3rd Street Promenade store in Santa Monica will begin selling Kiehl's.
Artemis Patrick, Senior Vice President of Merchandising at Sephora said, "At Sephora, our goal is to give our clients the most innovative and effective products for her beauty goals." Patrick noted that Kiehl's history of using natural ingredients has helped build the brand's respect.
Chris Salgardo, President, Kiehl's USA said, "Kiehl's began as a neighborhood apothecary that always put its patrons first, so ensuring that Kiehl's current fans have accessibility to our... products in any neighborhood is important."
Sephora is selling 95 skin, body and haircare products from the brand including the best sellers. Price points range from $7 for Lip Balm #1 to a $90 limited edition Kiehl's x Kate Moross skincare set.
Kiehl's is a 166 year old skincare brand. It was founded in New York City and is positioned as an old world apothecary brand that combines cosmetic, pharmaceutical, herbal, and medicinal knowledge developed through the generations. L'Oreal bought it in 2000. According to L'Oreal's brand brief, iconic Kiehl's products include "Crème de Corps, Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner, Midnight Recovery Concentrate, Ultra Facial Cream, [and] Lip Balm #1."
The brands have not disclosed plans for additional in store launches beyond SF, LA, NY and Vegas. Regardless, Salgardo's comments indicate there may be future roll outs in more Sephora stores after the market is more established.
