Kohl’s Corp. has just announced the appointment of Bruce Besanko as the company’s new Chief Financial Officer, officially effective July 10. Besanko is replacing Wesley McDonald who is planning to retire after serving as CFO for the past 14 years.
Besanko boasts 21-plus years of financial leadership experience in retail, particularly in the food and office supply channels. After four years, Besanko is leaving his role as the chief financial officer and chief operating officer of Supervalu Inc. to join the Kohl’s team—the 57-year-old finance guru will report directly to the company’s chairman, chief executive officer and president Kevin Mansell. Prior to working for the grocery store chain, Besanko spent five years with OfficeMax—now owned by Office Depot—serving as chief financial officer and chief administrative officer.
With widely reported store closures, declining foot traffic and shrinking sales, Besanko will have his work cut out for him as he oversees the future of the struggling department store’s financial planning, reporting and analysis; investor relations; accounting operations; and credit and capital investment strategies.
