L'Oréal Canada announced on Friday the creation of a Chief Retail Officer (CRO) position and the appointment of Jared MacKay to the new position.
The creation of the Chief Retail Officer role is a first among the L'Oréal Americas Zone. It was created because of important changes seen in the Canadian branded retail landscape within the cosmetics industry as well as growth opportunities for L'Oréal Canada.
“Based on the experience of some of the company's 35 brands, such as Kiehl's successful boutiques, the rapidly expanding NYX retail operations, and the opening of Urban Decay's retail activities, it has become essential for L'Oréal Canada to manage retail operations as a strategic business driver and to implement best-in-class processes, systems and synergies across all of its divisions,” the company says in a news statement.
For the past 15 years, Mackay has held several position in fields such as store management, brand management, merchandising strategy and creative development.
In this new role, MacKay will develop a holistic retail strategy, create and negotiate strategic partnerships with real estate landlords, develop best-in-class retail operation solutions and synergies in back-office procedures, as well as establish seamless omni-channel experiences linked with e-commerce and CRM.
L'Oréal Canada is a wholly-owned subsidiary of L'Oréal Group. It had sales of $1.054 billion in 2015, and holds a portfolio of 35 brands.
