LulaRoe faces public backlash for poor quality leggings

LuLaRoe is under fire, with customers claiming the brand's leggings “tear like wet toilet paper”, as one customer told Business Insider.

LulaRoe quickly gained popularity by creating low-price leggings (all products are made in Vietnam), and other women's apparel products, in a variety of bold prints. LuLaRoe doesn’t sell directly to customers - the brand operates on a direct-marketing initiative, asking ‘consultants’ to  purchase items at a wholesale price to sell to their social network.

But now customers are speaking out against the brand, saying that the brands signature leggings rip apart to shreds in just a few wears, even with the utmost care. Distraught customers have launched a Facebook group 2,500 strong called “LuLaRoe Defective/Ripped Leggings,” posting pictures and creative, humorous suggestions about how to repurpose or recycle the leggings.

For its part, LuLaRoe does not seem to have much a response strategy in place. Business Insider reports that consultants’ requests for reimbursement are not being answered. The brand has yet to make a direct comment to the press about the issue.

Leggings might have become a flash point among consumers ever since Lululemon came under fire for quality control issues. After the Vancouver-based  brand sold thousands of see-through yoga pants in 2013, even facing potential law suits at one point, Lululemon looked to PR to fix its error, recalling the pants and sending founder Chip Wilson to make a public apology.
