Following much anticipation from fans, M.A.C. announced it will create a collection dedicated to the late R&B singer. The makeup collection is set to launch in Summer 2018.

Fans of Aaliyah started a petition in 2015 asking the cosmetics giant to create a collection for the late singer, citing her love of M.A.C. products and her appeal to people of all ages, races and sexes.

In an Instagram post on Thursday, M.A.C. announced it is in fact creating a line inspired by the signer, who died in a plane crash in 2001 at the age of 22.  “Aaliyah is truly one in a million — an unstoppable icon whose groundbreaking work in R&B music and film inspires us all. Today we join her countless fans in celebrating her with the announcement of the M·A·C Aaliyah collection. You made it happen! Stay tuned in 2018,” the brand wrote.

The cosmetics brand has frequently created collections in collaboration with or inspired by music icons. Most recently, M.A.C. announced it would create a line of nude lipsticks with Nicki Minaj, set to launch in September. In 2016, the brand, which is owned by Estée Lauder, released a line inspired by the late singer Selena.
