Macerich opens expanded Broadway Plaza shopping center

Macerich on Thursday officially opened its newly expanded Broadway Plaza shopping mall at Walnut Creek, California.
The open-air retail center more than doubled its square footage and now stands at 900,000 square feet. Macerich demolished and replaced two older, inefficient parking structures and about 80,000 square feet of existing small shop retail space during the redevelopment, as well as a 70,000-square-foot Macy’s Men’s store space that made room for Gap, H&M and Zara stores.
Broadway Plaza also added over 50 new stores and is over 90% leased. The new stores that have opened or will open this holiday season at the mall include Michael Kors, J. Crew and Madewell, Victoria’s Secret, Lululemon, Eileen Fisher, Aritzia, Athleta, Aldo and Kit & Ace among others. Macy’s, one of the stores already open at Broadway Plaza, expanded by 57,000 square feet, with the redesigned 247,000-square-foot store that opened last November.
Broadway Plaza has been the foremost retail destination for the East Bay market of San Francisco since 1951. The retail center in anchored by Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Macy’s and is home to retailers Banana Republic, Coach, Kate Spade, Michael Stars and Sephora among others.
