Macy's opens newly renovated store at Westfield Century City

Macy’s last week reopened its newly expanded Westfield Century City location. The mall is currently undergoing a $1 billion expansion, adding 422,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.

 
The newly renovated location is one of three anchor locations at the Los Angeles mall, alongside Nordstrom, which is opening in October, and Bloomingdale’s. The retailer added 50,000 square feet to its store, which now stands at 155,000 square feet and houses women’s, men’s and home departments and a Blumercury spa.
 
The two-level store also features two My Stylist offices and a dress department that is a major draw for the store. Store Manager Negin Shahabikia said that customers from the Platinum Triangle neighborhoods, comprised of Bel Air, Beverly Hills and Holmby Hills, have historically been “a big business” for the store.

Negin added, “We’re a big social dress store because we have a lot of studios across the street. We have a lot of the awards-season customer that comes here to shop,”
 
Macy’s reopens its Century City store amidst store closures and job cuts. The retailer said in January that it would close 68 stores by the middle of 2017, eliminating 3,900 jobs. In addition, restructuring plans would result in the loss of 6,200 positions. Also in January, Macy's sold its Westside Pavilion location in West Los Angeles to GPI Cos. for $50 million, which is less than two miles from Westfield Century City.
 
Despite the reduction of stores, former Macy’s CEO Terry Lundgren said that physical stores “will play an exceedingly important role in the future of shopping for us.”
