Emerging skincare brand Manda has named Hawaiian pro surfer Mason Ho as its first brand ambassador to represent its organic skincare line.
Encinitas, CA-based Manda is in its first year of operations after a successful Kickstarter campaign. It focuses on sustainable skincare with a sun protection focus, ideal for surfers, hikers, climbers and outdoor athletes. Ingredients are food grade and organic.
“Mason is one of surfing’s most intriguing characters and his free-spirited way of life fits perfectly in line with Manda’s brand ethos," said Manda co-founder Reis Paluso.
Mason Ho is a 28 year old Hawaiian surfer who is known for his entertaining style. He received last year's Andy Irons Breakthrough Performer award and made the Top 10 in the 2016 Surfer Poll Awards.
Ho said of his interest in the partnership, "Since my life is centered around the ocean, it means a lot to use a product that is not only good for my skin but also for the environment.”
The lead product is a mineral-based sunscreen. The eight ingredients in it include organic cinnamon oil, organic coconut oil and organic cacao oil. The main ingredient is thanaka, a tree derived antioxidant and moisturizer that has long been used as a daily cosmetic in Burmese life.
Manda skincare is currently sold at select surf shops across the country and on both coasts. A small selection is also available online.
Manda was founded on the premise that the harsh ingredients in traditional sunscreens and skin products are damaging the environment and specifically are killing off coral reefs. The brand's goal is to create gentle product for both the body and the environment.
