Wittmore has announced that Matsuda, a luxury Japanese eyewear brand, has opened a custom sunglasses boutique at the store for the month of September.

The MATSUDA shop takeover at Wittmore - Wittmore

The shop takeover is Matsuda’s first retail expression in 15 years. The space offers the brand’s new and heritage designs as well as a historical retrospective. The collections available in store consist of Matsuda’s most popular and iconic styles from the last three decades. Every style is handcrafted in Japan, taking over 250 steps to complete, and uses materials like the highest quality Titanium and cotton-based Japanese acetate. The sunglasses are made in small batches of 100 or less, and prices range from $380 to $1500, with most styles running in the $500 range.

In addition to the sunglasses offered, the store also features a timeline of the brand’s history showing famous styles worn through each decade.

James Kisgen, CEO of Matsuda, said “It has been a passion project of ours to showcase Matsuda in such a way that truly represents the art and style behind the brand. The journey inside Wittmore provides us the opportunity to convey what makes each hand-finished piece so unique. And the one-on-one style of the team at Wittmore allows for people to fall in love with the brand the way Mitsuhiro Matsuda originally envisioned.”

The Matsuda collection is available at Wittmore’s Arts District store in downtown Los Angeles and on the Wittmore website.
