This year, Michigan-based Meijer will invest over $400 Million to build nine new supercenters, remodel 32 existing stores, and hire an additional 3,000 employees. Meijer is a one-stop shopping destination that offers a wide range of products and services, including groceries, onsite pharmacies, and housewares, as well as apparel staples by Hanes, Disney and Fruit of the Loom. The company also sells beauty products by Essie, Revlon and Murad, among others.
"We are pleased to continue to grow and invest in the Midwest communities that have supported us for so long," Hank Meijer said. "By keeping prices low and ensuring a great shopping environment, we are keeping our promise to our customers that we will provide the best one-stop shopping solution."
Supercenters will be built in Michigan (Sturgis and Flat Rock), Indiana (Indianapolis and Evansville), Illinois (Round Lake Beach and Flossmoor), Kentucky (Owensboro) and Wisconsin (Sussex and Waukesha). Each new Meijer adds 300 full- and part-time jobs to local economies. Since 2010, the company has opened 36 new stores, resulting in increased employment and millions of dollars of tax revenue for the communities served by each store.
Meijer, headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, operates 224 supercenters and grocery stores throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin. In addition to groceries, Meijer “one-stop” stores have onsite pharmacies and sell electronics, in addition to comprehensive apparel departments for men, women and children.
