Miami Design District launches luxurious new upgrade

Published
Nov 30, 2016

Miami’s design district is in the process of getting a luxurious new upgrade. Over 31 luxury brands and a contemporary art museum will be opening its doors over the next few months in the 18-block open-air shopping district.

Over 250,000-square-feet of retail space will be added, bringing the current 700,000-square-foot retail footprint to over 1 million square feet of mixed retail space. The Miami Design District hopes this expansive new upgrade will push the design district from being an urban shopping area to being the cultural hub of the city.

31 of the biggest brands in fashion, including  Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Alice and Olivia, Alexander Wang, Eres, Warby Parker and Diane von Furstenberg, will be joining the 60 luxury boutiques that currently inhabit the design district. At the moment, the district is home to Hermès, Dior, Bulgari, Céline, Cartier, Giorgio Armani, Givenchy, Loewe, Tiffany & Co., Valentino, Tom Ford, Louis Vuitton and Harry Winston. Saint Laurent and Cos opened the doors to their new design district locations this week.

The brand new Iocation of the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami, designed by Spanish architects Aranguren and Gallegos, will also be joining the vibrant neighborhood. The institute focuses on exhibiting work by some of the most talented and under-recognized artists of the time. Clavel Arquitectos; J. Mayer H.; K/R, Keenen Riley; Nicolas Buffe; Sagmeister & Walsh and WORK AC designed unique facades for the 900-space parking garage adjacent to the museum.
