Milly designer creates capsule collection dedicated to Girls Inc.

Milly designer Michelle Smith is partnering this year with the New York charity Girls Inc. The group's purpose is to inspire low-income girls on how to navigate social, gender and economic boundaries. She’ll do it by creating a capsule collection of slogan tees, sweatshirts and pouches with words like “Boss,” “Miss Independent” and “GRL PWR” emblazoned on them. The collection will be manufactured in New York City.

The designer said this in a statement: “I’ve always felt strongly that girls should use whatever platforms they have to change the world and speak about what matters to them, so partnering with Girls Inc. of New York City felt so organic.”

Smith will also serve as a mentor to girls in the program, and Milly and Girls Inc. of NYC will further team up on forthcoming capsule collections and a content program.

“I’m grateful they have given me the opportunity to inspire and mentor these young women to grow up to be strong, smart, and bold,” Smith said.
