Branding Brand, a mobile app and site developer, announced on Thursday that mobile shopping had its best Thanksgiving weekend in history this year, and that Black Friday posted more sales than Cyber Monday for the first time ever.
The company analyzed 30 million online visits during Cyber Five, the sales period from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday, and found that smartphone traffic surpassed desktop computers on all days except for Cyber Monday. Overall mobile revenue increased 30% during Cyber Five and desktop revenue increased by 6%. Desktops were responsible for 60% of all Thanksgiving weekend revenue.
In addition, Black Friday had 31% more online revenue than Cyber Monday this year.
"Cyber Monday has become outdated," said said Chris Mason, CEO and Co-founder of Branding Brand."With a smartphone in their pockets, shoppers can browse and buy instantly. They don't have to wait for work on Monday for an Internet connection and a desktop computer."
The increase in Black Friday online sales may be due to retailers launching their online sales earlier than in previous years. Wal-Mart, in particular, kicked off its Cyber Monday deals on Black Friday.
