The bill is designed to draw attention to the harmful effects of material photoshopping. It specifically asks the FTC to develop a regulatory framework for image-altering in advertisements that significantly change the people in them.

Modcloth founder Susan Gregg Koger spoke at the event and was joined by the bill sponsors from California and Florida.

"Portraying women in an honest and realistic way is essential to fulfilling our brand purpose of empowering women to be the best version of themselves. It demonstrates to young women that measurements are a fact, not a judgement. We want to lend our voice and the support of the ModCloth community to this movement to stop the extreme and harmful photoshopping of women in advertisements."

Modcloth was the only retailer in 2014 to sign the bill, and supports a body positive shopping experience by sourcing models from within its community.

Representative Lois Capps from California said, "we must do all we can to ensure that our nation's consumers have the tools necessary to distinguish real life from fiction so that they can form a healthy body image."

Modcloth hosted the event in conjunction with its current IRL popup shop in DC. The IRL tour will continue to Portland, OR in July and the Boulder/Denver area in August, drawing more attention to the anti-photoshopping movement starting to take hold in the fashion industry.
