Moncler's product category list of jackets, ski suits and eyewear will now also include skis! The brand under the leadership of Remo Ruffini is launching its first-ever collection of skis through a collaboration with Swiss manufacturer Zai.

The brand is bolstering its identity as an outwear label for the mountains. - Moncler

Moncler Grenoble, the group’s skiwear label, has recruited a manufacturer specialized in the production of high-end skis. Zai is located in Disentis, a small village in the Swiss canton of Grisons, and will produce a high-tech limited edition collection.

The matte black skis, only 1.7 millimeter thick, are available in three sizes and offer ultra-high performance. They are made of carbon, steel, aluminum and thermoplastic rubber, incorporating state-of-the-art technology to provide maximum torque and stability, says the brand in a press release.

The skis are part of a kit that includes a bag-cover, carbon ski poles and ski maintenance waxes. They will retail for 4950 euros in select Moncler stores in a few ski resorts and major cities, as well as in the brand’s online store.

The down jacket label is entering the high-end ski market - Moncler

Moncler is bolstering its identity as a company born in the mountains while at the same time promoting itself as a fashion-forward brand. The ski launch is essentially another iteration of the brand’s best and most creative collaborations.

To mark the inauguration of its new flagship store on Madison Avenue — the second in New York and the twentieth in the U.S. — Moncler unveiled its short film Brave, by American director Spike Lee.

Moncler has also launched a special capsule collection with Thom Browne, exclusively available at its New York flagship. Thom Brown already designs the high-end men's line Moncler Gamme Bleue. For the capsule, he drew inspiration from the American flag, reproducing and reinterpreting it on jackets, pullovers and other accessories.
