The makeover will include the merger of the Montreal Eaton Center with neighboring mall the Complexe Les Ailes, which together welcome more than 30 million visitors annually.

Once complete, the reconfigured Montreal Eaton Centre “will exemplify the newest trends in retailing and the new means of consumption, including a gourmet food hall,” according to property owners, Ivanhoé Cambridge.

New leasing opportunities will also be available including large format retailers.

"Sainte-Catherine Street's great strength is its ability to reinvent itself continually," said Claude Sirois, President, Retail at Ivanhoé Cambridge, in a news statement.

"Our demanding clientele wants an innovative and sustainable project that stands out for its urban character. With the physical changes we are making and the collaboration of our current and future retailers and brands, we are setting out to redefine the urban shopping experience downtown."

The $200 million investment is the final component of Ivanhoé Cambridge’s $1 billion plan dubbed 'Project Nouveau Centre'. The project includes four Montreal properties including Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth and Maison Manuvie (now complete), along with Place Ville Marie (in progress until 2019) and now the Montreal Eaton Centre.

The Montreal Eaton Centre is expected to be under construction until 2020.
