Though postponed by a month, the Black History Month Gala and Mandela Legacy Awards were held on March 19 in Ottawa at the Canadian Museum of History.
The event welcomed supermodel Naomi Campbell where she was awarded a Mandela Legacy Award for her charitable work including Fashion for Relief, a series of fashion shows she organized to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
A close friend of the Mandela family presented the award to Campbell.
“#Thankyou I am so honored to receive this award,” Campbell wrote on an Instagram post caption.
The event is the fifth annual gala. The Mandela Legacy awards are given to individuals who empower others through their work and achievements.
