Narciso Rodriguez to be subject of the first Frost Art Museum fashion exhibit

Published
Jun 30, 2016

The Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University announced this week its first-ever fashion exhibit centered on the works of Cuban-American fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez.

Narciso Rodriguez: An Exercise in Minimalism will present 50 designs from the Cuban-American designer's namesake label

Narciso Rodriguez: An Exercise in Minimalism will present 50 designs from Narciso Rodriguez’s eponymous fashion label as well as complimentary works of art that have inspired Rodriguez himself. The exhibit will explore the designer’s inspiration, as well as the evolution of his fashion label.

Elle Magazine Creative Director Alex Gonzalez will co-curate the exhibition with the Frost’s curatorial team.

A native of Newark, New Jersey, Rodriguez studied at the Parsons School of Design before working with Anne Klein under Donna Karan and later Calvin Klein. Rodriguez founded his atelier in New York City in 2001 and was awarded Womenswear Designer of the Year by the CFDA in 2002 and 2003, the first designer to receive the award in consecutive years. His designs became a part of American history when Michelle Obama wore a dress from his Spring 2009 collection for the President’s election night.

Narciso Rodriguez: An Exercise in Minimalism will open on October 9, 2016 and will remain through January 8, 2017.
