Neiman Marcus opens at Roosevelt Field mall

Neiman Marcus on Friday opened its first Long Island location at Roosevelt Field mall in Garden City, NY.

The 106,000-square-foot location is a modest two-level store when compared to its 41 locations throughout the US. The exterior of the store features 2,100 aluminum panels that are meant to represent the retailer’s butterfly wings symbol.

The new store features a luxury wing including brands like Tory Burch, Kate Spade New York, Montblanc, Jo Malone and Jonathan Adler among others. The first floor of the Roosevelt Field store houses a cosmetics and fragrances section, private spa rooms, designer handbags, a shoe salon, designer jewelry and the dedicated men’s store. The second floor is where customers will find designer sportswear, intimates, eveningwear and couture, as well as the NM Café.

Some new amenities in the store include a ChargeItSpot kiosk where customers can charge their phones, Memory Mirrors by MemoMi that captures a 360-degree view of an outfit and compares outfits side-by-side, and the ability to purchase items not in store through sales associates’ special iPhones that have preloaded lookbooks and website access.

The Roosevelt Field location can be seen as a teaser of what Neiman Marcus will open in Manhattan in 2018. In November, the retailer announced that it will open a 250,000-square-foot multi-level store that will anchor the Shops at Hudson Yards.

The current expansion into the New York market couldn’t have come at a better time for Neiman Marcus with major retail competitors like Nordstrom moving into New York City and Saks Fifth Avenue expanding beyond Manhattan into Brooklyn. In December, the luxury retailer reported a decrease in revenue and a net loss $10.5 million in Q1 2016. The recent store opening could be the answer to keeping the retailer’s sales afloat.
