New York Menswear Day to kick off NYFW:M with a strong lineup of emerging labels

Published
Jan 26, 2017

Now in its seventh season, New York Menswear Day will showcase 12 emerging American designers in a day of presentations on January 30.

Before there was NYFW:M there was New York Men’s Day – a day of men’s fashion presentations created in 2011 by Erin Hawker, CEO of NY-based Agentry PR.  Now in its seventh season, New York Men’s Day has allowed emerging designers to show their collections in a relatively inexpensive way, with maximum impact. The group show features 12 designer presentations: 6 in the morning, and 6 in the afternoon, at the same time, in different rooms. Each designer presents his collection in his own designated space, and the invited guests are able to move from room to room experiencing the collections.

While the CFDA has come on the scene with the official schedule at New York Fashion Week Men’s, New York Men’s Day continues to be an important day on the men’s fashion calendar in NYC for emerging brands, and is held the day before NYFW:M begins.

Debuting at NYMD is the avant garde label Kozaburo – designed by Japanese designer Kozaburo Akasaka. Trained at Central St. Martins in London, and a former Thom Browne employee, Kozaburo’s collections are inspired by 90’s street style, and are carried at Dover Street Market. Kozaburo, alongside participating designers Bristol, David Hart, Krammer & Stoudt, Max 'n Chester and Uri Minkoff will be showing in the morning presentation. The afternoon presentation will feature the collections of David Naman, Maiden Noir, Private Policy, Robert James, and Woodhouse, as well as newcomer R. Swiader - the Los Angeles based label which offers relaxed, sophisticated menswear staples.

The looks of each designer are being previewed in a display at the AW17 Project Trade Show in NYC, from January 23rd -25th, 2017 at the Jacob Javits Center.

“It never ceases to amaze me the amount of talent there is in menswear today and we are proud to be presenting New York Men’s Day for the 7th consecutive season,” Hawker says. “This season, we decided to bring NYMD to Dune Studios, a new photo studio that offers a variety of spaces all on one floor for our presentations all the while overlooking the East River with an impeccable panoramic view of lower Manhattan. The new location ushers in new emerging talents and the return of menswear favorites which we are honored to have as part of the New York Men’s Day family.”
