Nike chemist leaves to join Hohenstein Institute America

Nike's Senior Director of Chemistry, John Frazier, has joined textile R&D leader Hohenstein Institute America.

The Hohenstein Institute is based in Germany, however Frazier will be based in Oregon and serve the Institute's American market.

In his new role as Senior Technical Director with Hohenstein, Frazier will focus on footwear and apparel clients. He will share Hohenstein's research to help them use green chemistry, textiles and materials that drive their innovation.

"John’s impressive sustainability resume will make him an invaluable asset to the textile manufacturers, sourcers, and retailers here in North America,” says Ben Mead, Managing Director of Hohenstein Institute America.

Mead continued, “He has proven expertise in many areas that can add product performance while still having a positive impact on a company’s sustainability profile.”

While at Nike, Frazier drove sustainability and green manufacturing. He focused on water use, climate stability and creating thriving communities around Nike's supply chain.

Frazier created tools that concretely helped improve Nike's environmental impact and helped close the loop on manufacturing. These tools included creating a Restricted Substance List, the Global Water Quality Program, and the Green/Healthier Chemistry Program.

In addition to being a resource for consumer product goods, footwear and apparel, Frazier will continue to remain active in trade organizations and speak at events designed to increase awareness among consumers, brands and young scientists to drive the sustainability message.
