Nordstrom to hire 24,000 new staff members ahead of holidays

As it aims to fill some 24,000 roles for the holiday season, Seattle-based department store chain Nordstrom, Inc. hosted a company-wide hiring day on Friday, October 19, with events featuring same-day interviews and on-the-spot job offers being held at all of its Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack locations across the US and Canada.

 
The company is looking to fill approximately 20,300 positions at its Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack stores in North America, 900 positions in its call centers and 2,800 positions at its distribution and fulfilment centers.
 
“The holiday season is one of our busiest times of year and we need to be sure we have the right teams in place to be able to offer our customers the service and experience they're looking for, no matter how they choose to shop with us,” said Nordstrom’s chief human resources officer Christine Deputy in a release.

Nordstrom promises its employees competitive pay and benefits including merchandise discounts, and employee charitable match and volunteering programs. Eligible employees can also apply for medical coverage and an employer-matched retirement plan.
 
“Our seasonal roles offer new employees a terrific opportunity to learn more about Nordstrom and the many career paths we offer,” added Deputy. “We have a promote-from-within philosophy, which is why so many of our long-term employees began their Nordstrom careers in a seasonal role.”
