Opening Ceremony has celebrated a number of countries in its fourteen years of existence including Brazil, Sweden, France and Japan, and this year the global fashion brand and retailer will honor China.
Monday marks the Chinese Lunar New Year as well as the launch of Opening Ceremony’s Year of China, which will showcase Chinese designers and special capsule collaborations with Anna Sui, Vivienne Tam and iconic SoHo shop, Pearl River Mart.
A number of Chinese designers are participating in the retailer’s Year of China showcase including Angel Chen, Decoster, Hiuman, Huishan Zhang, Mo & Co, Ms Min, Poesie, Xander Zhou, and Ximon Lee among others.
The most notable collaboration by Opening Ceremony is with Pearl River Mart, the longtime Chinese retailer. The capsule pays homage to the SoHo retailer by featuring its logo in a number of pieces in addition to various Chinese symbols and art.
The Chinese department store announced its closure in April 2015. The store was slated to shutter its doors by the end of 2015, but it has remained into 2016 with updated plans to close this March. Pearl River Mart will continue to operate online while it looks for a new brick-and-mortar location.
Opening Ceremony has made several designers and brands available on its website today and it will continue to update the product offering throughout 2016.
