PFW: Tundra chic - mainly in fake fur

It all felt like a collection for an Alpine winter vacation, seeing as elbow gloves came in bright shamrock or electric blue fur and all the cast wore enormous fur-peak caps, mostly finished with patent leather belts.

For fur, or fake, was the dominant message.

Take the invitation – in violet fake fur. Indeed, the entire inside of the Conseil Economique et Social in the 16th arrondissement, a massive triangular space in the 16th. Its columns, walls, seats, staircase and entrance all done out in the same fake material.

Practically every model wore fur – most real, some synthetic. Whether the real fox fur capes; or Canadian jackets with humungous faux collars; or transparent plastic parkas topped by synthetic fox shawls; or Communist athlete-style parkas with unreal astrakhan inserts. Those that did not wear fur, impressed in knit suits in beachside stripes and a truly beautiful final look – a sleeveless shining cocktail with multiple silver necklaces that screamed American Vogue cover. With De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quests blaring out of huge speakers, the cast all walked in American bowling shoes, but with high and thick heels.

Signora Prada, fashion’s most famous feminist, can certainly liberate women with her designs. None of her collections include bias cut dresses, as she regards this silhouette as reducing women to sexual objects. This one was no exception. And, this insouciant take on feminist fashion – all in sherbet - will be all taken up by the world’s mass brands within a few weeks.
