Peter Copping exits Oscar de la Renta

Peter Copping, the creative director of Oscar de la Renta, has left the brand after less than two years.

The luxury women's label confirmed the news on Wednesday with a press statement released on Copping's behalf.

The British designer stated in the release, "After almost two years with Oscar de la Renta, personal circumstances require me to return to Europe. I have loved my time in New York where I hope to return at some point in the future."

Copping was handpicked by de la Renta himself, and took the reigns after the designer's death in 2014.

Since his appointment, his collections have been met with mixed reviews, critiqued by some as lacking commerciality.

No successor to Copping has been named.
