Pitti Uomo meets terror threat by maximising security

Published

The Pitti Uomo trade show, to be held in Florence from 12th to 15th January, has decided to reinforce its security measures in cooperation with the city's municipal authorities and police. Evidently a consequence of the Paris attacks in November and related to the directives issued by the EU. It is undoubtedly also a way of trying to reassure exhibitors and visitors.

For example the organisers pointed out how entry point checks will be carried out by employees working alongside police officers, equipped with metal detectors. They added, however, that the number of turnstiles will be increased, and manned by extra staff, so they don't expect waiting times to be greatly extended. They especially require each individual to always have their proof of identity on hand.

Extra CCTV cameras will also be installed inside the Fortezza da Basso. And, at the end of each exhibition day, including the eve of the show, when exhibitors will be gaining possession of their booths, the plan is for the police to carry out an in-depth inspection of all pavilions.

The time period for loading and unloading, during which vehicles can be parked inside the Fortezza da Basso, will also be limited, and operations will be closely monitored.

Finally, it is worth noting that the organisers are advising visitors coming by train to deposit their luggage at the left luggage facility of Florence's Santa Maria Novella station - subject to availability - because the show's luggage office at the Fortezza da Basso will have a smaller capacity than usual.

The show's organisers emphasised that "employees will ask you for proof of identity, and the document will be photocopied and adapted to the directives."
